Employee turnover results in knowledge loss, due to which process safety and quality is highly affected. Turnover becomes a serious problem in knowledge intensive industries such telecommunication. Pakistan’s telecom sector has grown phenomenally but it is not without problems, one of the problems is employee turnover due to which a lot of knowledge is lost. The effect of Knowledge loss could be mitigated through knowledge management. A structured questionnaire having 46 questions was framed to collect responses about knowledge management practices in the telecom operators of Pakistan, which was conducted online. Data is presented using frequency distribution and simple averages. Results seems to indicate absence of knowledge management as a strategic response towards knowledge loss, however a young and educated workforce, strong cooperative culture, and good ICT provision could be leveraged to build successful knowledge management systems. This study looks at the knowledge management practices among Pakistani telecom companies, to provide a background and measure the readiness of telecom companies in Pakistan to embrace knowledge management as a viable solution for knowledge loss. The study also provides a snapshot of the health of Pakistani telecom companies to policy maker and regulators. It is hard to find literature on the organizational dynamics of telecom companies in Pakistan; it is even harder to find a study on the knowledge management aspect. By far this study is the first of its kind in the context of Pakistan’s telecom sector.
